The Rape of Europa is a documentary that takes the audience on a journey back to Nazi Germany. Strangely enough, Adolph Hitler loved and appreciated art. He was actually able to paint, although his talents as an artist was considered mediocre. At one point his application to art school was rejected, and some historians believe that, possibly, this changed the entire course of history. When Hitler traveled to Italy years later, and saw so much of its magnificent artwork, he returned to Germany with a mission to establish Germany as the major art center in Europe. It was going to be called the Fuhrer Museum. The leader of the Third Reich swept through seven countries and plundered their museums. Hitler stole thousands of artwork throughout Europe. In Paris the Louvre packed up all of its artwork and hid it all away in the outlaying countryside. Can you imagine the Louvre, which is an 8 mile long museum, completely emptied? Neither can I, but see the photo below….
